PROGRESSIVE HYPERTROPHIC POLYNEURITIS, WITH CASE REPORTS

W. RITCHIE RUSSELL and HUGH G. GARLAND

National Hospital Queen Square, London

Progressive hypertrophic polyneuritis appears to be a clinical and pathological entity.

The symptomatology is extremely variable. Enlargement of the nerves and wasting of muscles are the only constant changes.

Seven cases are described, in two of which the diagnosis has been confirmed by microscopic examination of the nerves.

In this series nystagmus and absence of tendon-jerks are common to all the cases.
