Spinal cord injury and disease is an important cause of human morbidity. The past 20 years has seen the emergence of many exciting and promising experimental therapeutic strategies to promote repair and regeneration of spinal cord function. The authors of this book propose that treatments to promote recovery of the diseased or injured spinal cord must be based on knowledge of the mechanisms of spinal cord development.
