About the Cover

Cover Figure

Cover design  Pathological sections prepared from a case of polymicrogyria and overlying leptomeningeal glioneuronal heterotopia, the latter marked with an asterisk. The top left panel is stained for reticulin and shows a break in the basement membrane with a bridge between the polymicrogyric molecular layer and the overlying leptomeninges. The bottom left panel, immunostained for reelin, demonstrates a cluster of large labelled Cajal--Retzius-like cells in the molecular layer on one side of such a bridge in the region of polymicrogyria, with additional reelin-positive Cajal--Retzius-like cells in the heterotopic tissue; a cluster of similarly labelled cells is seen in another region of the heterotopic tissue overlying polymicrogyria in the top right panel. The Cajal--Retzius-like cells within the heterotopic tissue also express calretinin, as shown in the bottom right panel.
