Bone marrow derived neurons expressing yellow fluorescent protein in the cerebral cortex of Cu/Zn superoxide dismutase (SOD1) mice. YFP neuron specific transgene expression provides evidence of neuronal phenotype acquisition in these bone marrow derived cells. As shown here, some cells exhibit double nuclear content suggesting cell fusion. From "Wild-type bone marrow cells ameliorate the phenotype of SOD1-G93A ALS mice and contribute to CNS, heart and skeletal muscle tissues" by Stefania Corti et al., pp. 2518-2532.
