COVER ILLUSTRATION. Large hemispheric brain lesion with concentric banding of myelinated and demyelinated tissue in a 38 year old female patient diagnosed with multiple sclerosis 5 years ago with a 2.5 weeks clinical duration of the current illness; Bielschowsky silver impregnation for axons of the adjacent section shows massive loss of axons in the demyelinated, but preservation of axons in the myelinated areas resulting in an identical concentric layering of the lesion. From Tissue preconditioning may explain concentric lesions in Balo's type of multiple sclerosis by Christine Stadelmann et al. see pages 979–987.
